Who is Nightmarish Meatballs?

Nightmarish Meatballs (or Meatballs for short) is a writer who explores the human condition through the lens of dystopian horror fiction set in a pastel pink and green world. Meatballs runs the Instagram account of the same name (@nightmarishmeatballs) from the point of view of a fictional protagonist who interviews survivors of this strange candy-coloured apocalypse. Her writing explores the friction within a constantly divided society, much of which can be likened to real life as we know it today. While the images you see are created with artificial intelligence and Photoshop, all the stories associated with the images are completely original.

Coming from a background in IT, Meatballs has routinely witnessed firsthand how the evolution of technology has both divided and brought people together. Her use of artificial intelligence as a visual tool to accompany her writing is an exploration of a technocratic dystopia, and begs the question of what's real and what's not. Her writing has been called "...doomsday without hope or salvation...almost Lovecraftian in its all-enveloping depressing plot" by the publication Cosmic Roots and Eldrith Shores. Whether writing short, serialised fiction or novels, Meatballs' work offers a sometimes unsettling examination of the disruptive nature of technology within our world, and how it affects the social politics within the art world and society at large.
